50 State Quarters™ Program Fact Sheet
Program Background
The 50 State Quarters™ Program is a 10-year initiative (1999 - 2008) commemorating
each of the 50 United States, as allowed by Public Law 105-124.
Unprecedented - The U.S. quarter's design will change five times each year for a 10-year
period, beginning in January 1999. · States are honored in the order in which they ratified
the Constitution and joined the Union. (See enclosed schedule.)
This program represents the first change to the quarter since production of the Bicentennial
quarter in 1975-1976. · The U.S. Mint will cease production of the "Eagle" quarter until the
50 State Quarters™ Program culminates in 2008.
The 50 State Quarters™ are legal tender issue from the United States Treasury, and will
be available through circulation in commercial transactions.
Design
Individual state designs are displayed on the reverse (tails) of the quarters, while the
obverse (heads) of the quarters continue to display the familiar image of George
Washington. To accommodate state designs on the reverse, the words "United States of
America," "Quarter Dollar," "Liberty," and "In God We Trust" have been moved to the
obverse.
State designs are submitted and selected via a process determined by the governor of each
state. The United States Mint Department reviews the designs for coinability before each
governor selects a final design.

CoinMapUSA Quarters Coin Map of the United States of America, commemorates the issuance of limited edition state quarters by the United States Mint. These new 50 state collector coins represent the first design changes to the quarter since the issuing of the 1976 bicentennial coin.
The collection of these coins has caught the interest of both serious coin collectors and the public at large. Parents are collecting for their children enthusiastic about the fun educational experience of placing coins within the accurate slots of the respective states.
Patriotism has become a national pastime of the American people. It is with this in mind that the collection of commemorative quarters is more popular now than ever before as the excitement of an all-American hobby is spreading across the USA and overseas.
Each state quarter is stamped with the first president of the United States, George Washington, on one side, and a unique state design on the reverse side.
Five states will be releasing coins each year having begun in 1999 and to end in 2008. The US Mint will issue one new state quarter design every ten weeks. Once minting is complete, each design will be retired, never to be produced again.
