The United States Quarter

In this era of rapid change, the United States Quarter has remained relatively unchanged, until
now. The 50 State Quarters Collection offers the first design change since the 1976 USA
bicentennial event celebrating the 200th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of
Independence.

The minting of the United States Quarter began in 1796, and although the quarter has seen
some design changes, its first major alteration was with the introduction of the Washington
quarter in 1932. It's introduction celebrated the 200th birthday of the first President of the
United States, George Washington.

In 1976, a colonial drummer replaced the eagle on the back of the coin in honor of the 200th
anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Over the next decade, the 50 State Quarters Collection will undergo an unheard of 50
changes, corresponding with each state in the Union. To generate the public's interest in coin
design and state history, each state will be honored on an individual coin over the next ten
years. Governors from each state will make the final decision as to what design will be used
on their state coin. What started out as a simple suggestion during US congressional hearings
on commemorative coins, has caught the attention of the American public and collectors,
young and old around the world.

CoinMapUSA Quarters Coin Map of the United States of America, commemorates the issuance of limited
edition state quarters by the United States Mint. These new 50 state collector coins represent the first
design changes to the quarter since the issuing of the 1976 bicentennial coin.

The collection of these coins has caught the interest of both serious coin collectors and the public at large.
Parents are collecting for their children enthusiastic about the fun educational experience of placing coins
within the accurate slots of the respective states.

Patriotism has become a national pastime of the American people. It is with this in mind that the
collection of commemorative quarters is more popular now than ever before as the excitement of an
all-American hobby is spreading across the USA and overseas.

Each state quarter is stamped with the first president of the United States, George Washington, on
one side, and a unique state design on the reverse side.

Five states will be releasing coins each year having begun in 1999 and to end in 2008. The US Mint
will issue one new state quarter design every ten weeks. Once minting is complete, each design will
be retired, never to be produced again.
